How do you make a Sunrise Detox Smoothie?

Simply add the frozen banana, mango, pineapple, berries, lemon juice and coconut water to a high-speed blender. Blend for about 2 minutes or until the mixture is very smooth. Pour into a large glass and serve!

Do I need to use frozen fruit in my smoothie?

When making smoothies, frozen fruit helps to give the smoothie a cold, creamy consistency. You can definitely use fresh fruit if you do not have frozen on-hand.

Replace the coconut water with ice cubes to get a similar consistency. Using ice cubes may require the smoothie to be blended for a longer time.

Can I use a regular blender to make smoothies?

While a high-speed blender is a better and quicker option, you don't have to use one in order to make great smoothies! If your blender is not a high-speed blender, it's best to use frozen fruit (instead of ice) and blend longer to get the smoothest consistency.

Are fruit smoothies healthy?

Well the answer to that question depends on who you ask. I believe that smoothies can be part of a healthy diet if they contain natural ingredients that are nutrient dense. Boost your immune system and enjoy a delicious breakfast at the same time!

Fruit smoothies contain high amounts of natural sugars but they also contain fiber when blending the whole fruit. A green smoothie is a good option if you are trying to avoid excess sugar in the diet.

Is this a coconut water smoothie?

Yes, this recipe calls for coconut water because of it's high potassium content. Feel free to replace the coconut water with filtered water if that is not a concern for you!

You can just leave it out if you don't have lemon.

Hi, I was wondering, can you sub the coconut water out for just regular water?

Some fresh ginger and/or turmeric root would really boost the detoxification and anti-inflammatory properties while giving it a bit more sass. If a little more sweetness is needed, try a couple pitted dates or some raw honey (a little goes a long way). I personally add the fruit & berries with ginger to a bunch of kale or spinach to get the added nutrition and fiber from the greens which helps to prevent blood sugar spikes. It doesn't look nearly as pretty as your recipe, but it packs a one-two nutritional punch!

This definitely would not be the best recipe on a low carb diet due to the sugar content that is natural in the fruit. To make it lower carb, replacing the fruit with all berries would be more ideal. Instead of coconut water, I have made this with fresh brewed and chilled green tea which was really good!

How soon do you start to loose weight? The. Smoothie is very good. Can you do this for more than 3 days?

Hi Hope, everybody is different when it comes to losing weight. You can do this for more than 3 days just remember DON'T starve yourself. If you get hungry eat something that is non processed. You will start to lose weight and feel better within a week or so. 🙂

This looks very delicious, if you add all the ingredients to the blender at once, how did you get the substances layered like in the picture?

      • Amy says

Hi Tina, for the pictures I did not blend them all at once for the pictures. I blended the raspberries separately to layer the two, which I think makes it pretty and lets everyone know that there are a few different flavors going on. When I make this for myself I just put everything in at one time. 🙂

I am on a very restricted low sodium, low carb diet due to chronic stage 2 kidney disease and pre diabetes. I am only allowed 400mgs sodium per meal. Can you tell me the nutrition count on this smoothie? Do you have any recipes you could share with me that are 400mgs of sodium, no more? Thank yu9 for your time.

Hi Lisann, I can't give out specific nutritional information on the smoothie because I am not a registered dietitian. Although I did get a nutrition certification I do not feel that I am qualified to give you advice. I don't want to give you any wrong information, especially since you seem to have a pretty strict diet. I appreciate you visiting my blog and good luck!

HI, I fully plan on making this smoothie it sounds delicious. I hate the taste of bananas, even the slightest bit. Do you have any suggestions for a substitute to the banana? Also, what do you usually eat for the lunch and dinner portion?

    Reply

    • Amy says

Hi Hillary! If you don't like bananas, I would just add more mango or any of the frozen fruit. I like the frozen banana because of the texture but I'm sure the frozen mango would work as well. As far as the lunch and dinner when I was on my cleanse, I ate peanut butter banana smoothies when I was hungry before dinner and then for dinner I would have black beans and rice or a couple of sweet potatoes. After the three days I went back to having a big smoothie for breakfast and then healthy carbs the rest of the day. I've kept my weight down by reducing the amount of dairy and meat I eat. The key is to give your body and digestive system a break for a few days while still giving it healthy food that's easy to digest. NEVER starve yourself, when you feel hungry drink some water, if you are still hungry, eat something like a smoothie. I hope this helps!

Can you please share what else you used in your pb banana smoothie?

      • Amy says

Hi Laurie, sorry for this late response! In each pb banana smoothie I use about 4 frozen bananas, 2 T PBfit which is peanut butter powder and water. Sometimes I put a drop of Sweet Drops vanilla flavored stevia.

Hi Amy, just a note, I'm 65, 80lbs. overweight and wanted to start a juice smoothie way of eating, any suggerstions..

Hi Teresa! If you are looking to lose weight using smoothies, I would eat them for breakfast and/or dessert. I would reduce or eliminate meat and dairy products as well. Try eating more beans, rice, sweet potatoes...healthy carbs. Carbs like these are good for you, contrary to popular belief. Everyday I eat things like a banana smoothie, black beans and rice, plain cooked sweet potatoes with hot sauce...I try to stay away from processed foods 80% of the time because for me it's not practical to eat healthy 100% of the time. Also try to reduce your sodium intake. Try this for a couple of weeks and let me know how it goes. I recommend reading the book "The Starch Solution". It gives good insight to why we should increase healthy carbs and decrease fat and animal products. I hope this helps! 🙂

What brand of coconut water do you all use? I've heard that most of the popular brands are actually unhealthy.

    • Amy says

Hi Jeanne, I have used Vita Coco but you can always just use plain water instead. I'm not sure about them being unhealthy so I would have to research it to give you a good answer. I hope this helps!

Do you not have to blend the ingredients individually and pour it that way? Or does it naturally settle into this colorization?

Looks like it'll be really tasty, though! Can't wait to try it 🙂

      Hi Jean,

I did pour the raspberry mixture and other ingredients separately for the pictures because I thought it would be really beautiful. If you would like to serve it this way, just blend the raspberries with a little water or coconut water and then put aside while you blend the rest of the ingredients. Then you can alternate the two mixtures to achieve this result. I'm so glad you stopped by!
