How to Unlock Toastie - Vampire Survivors Guide - IGN (2024)

Toastie is a playable character in Vampire Survivors that can only be unlocked by completing a secret sequence of objectives. But before you can add Toastie to your cast you must first unlock their ghostly buddy Exdash Exiviiq. If you haven't unlocked Exdash yet you can do so by entering "x-x1viiq" into the game's Start menu. How to Unlock Toastie

To unlock Toastie you'll need todefeat either the Stalker or the Drowner and simultaneously press the down arrow key and the Enter key when Toastie briefly appears in the bottom right corner of your screen. Toastie will only appear for half a second so make sure to prepare to mash those keys as even the fastest instincts might miss the little red ghost.

The Stalker is a green variant of Death, as pictured above, while the Drowner is a blue Death variant that can inflict damage with rising waters. The Stalker and Drowner are special enemies that only appear on a couple of stages and they can only be defeated in a few ways because they're largely invulnerable to your weapons.

Below you'll find details on where you can find the Stalker and Drowner as well as an outline of how you can take on these seemingly invincible foes.

The Stalker

The Stalker appears exclusively on the stages,Dairy Plant, Capella Magna, and The Bone Zone but if you're looking to take down the Stalker you'll need to learn their map-dependent spawn tendencies.

In the Dairy Plant, the Stalker has a1% chanceof spawning when you start a run and a30% chanceof spawning at both the8-minute markand the12-minute mark. If you pass the 12-minute mark and the Stalker hasn't arrived, abandon your run and try again since they cannot spawn at any other point. While finding the Stalker on Dairy Plant is a game of chance, the Stalker will spawn at the 10-minute mark 100% of the time on The Bone Zone and on Vampire Survivors' newest stage, Cappella Magna.

As you gear up for your fight remember that the Stalker can only be defeated by:

• The Pentagram and its evolution, Gorgeous Moon
• Infinite Corridor
• Crimson Shroud
• The Rosary (floor loot item shaped like a cross)
• Minecarts on the Dairy Plant stage (one-shot kill)

The Drowner

The Drowner is a unique Death variant that controls rising waters that can inflict 20 damage per tick, and with many Characters having 100 HP or less, you shouldn't take this foe lightly. The Drowner only appears on the stages,Gallo Tower, Cappella Magna, and The Bone Zone but like the Stalker, the Drowner's spawns change based on the current stage as seen below:

The Gallo Tower is a bit unique in that the Drowner can spawn at the25-minute markbut if your run exceeds this point and the Drowner hasn't spawned, they'll emerge at the30-minute mark butthey'll be invincible at this time.

The Drowner can be defeated on The Bone Zone and Gallo Tower by the Rosary item, Infinite Corridor, Crimson Shroud, and Gorgeous Moon but unlike The Stalker, the Pentagram cannot take down the Drowner on these stages. However, it is possible for the Pentagram to kill the Drowner on the Cappella Magna stage.

If the Pentagram fires and removes all of the items on the stage the Drowner will survive but their water will disappear and they'll be unable to inflict damage as a result. But if the Pentagram fires and doesn't remove the stage items, the Drowner will be vanquished and you'll have your opportunity to unlock Toastie. With the Pentagram being a gamble, you should maximize your chances of success by evolving the Pentagram as much as possible prior to the Drowner's appearance.

Toastie Explained

Toastie's starting weapon is the Peachone which is arguably one of the weakest base weapons in the game. Peachone bombards in a circling zone and because of its lengthy cooldown and RNG-based attack it can be difficult to rack up XP or even protect yourself in certain situations. Because of this, you should always try to select another weapon with your first Level Up. To maximize the output of Peachone upgrade your Duration, Amount, and most importantly decrease your Cooldown.

Toastie starts with some tragically awful stats including just 1 HP which means they'll die immediately to any damage whatsoever. Because Toastie is so fragile, you should invest in Armor and Max Health PowerUps and it's arguable that the Laurel is a must-pick weapon. If possible, rack up your Revivals by buying the PowerUp, collecting the Tiragisu item, and selecting the Awake Arcana that immediately grants you +3 Revives.

If you manage to help Toastie survive past Level 100 their Max Health will begin to skyrocket and if you're lucky enough to exceed Level 200, Toastie will receive additional Armor that will all but render him immortal.
