Being a therapist motivates and give me purpose. Everyone experience life changes, but not everyone is prepared to manage the emotional, physical, social or financial changes that come with life changes. Feelings emotionally overwhelmed can affect the ability to make rational decisions. The inability to make rational decisions disrupts connection with self, reality,
family
and friends. As a Licensed Clinical social worker I am licensed to diagnose and treat. You are not alone and should never feel you are. I practice in an outpatient setting. My passion is helping patients move from a place of despair to optimism.

Play therapy is most often used for children ages 2-12, though it can also be used in varying forms with teenagers, as well as the
family
system.
Could your Child Benefit from Play Therapy? Children are not tiny adults. Nervousness, frustration, and anxiety feel strange and scary to a small person who has very little experience dealing with big feelings. Play therapy is a treatment that helps children who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and relationship disorders to express their emotions, improve their communication abilities, and learn to solve problems. This kind of therapy respects a child’s unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping by observing and interacting with how they play, which is the natural expressive “language” of children.

I am a Blue Cross Blue Shield provider. One thing I've learned both by counseling others and being counseled is that we cannot shame ourselves into the person we want to be. I believe if we approach ourselves with curiosity, compassion, and gentleness, we will be surprised at what we will learn, what we can accomplish, and how we can heal. I also believe in the connective power of humor and storytelling within the therapeutic environment. I commonly work with clients dealing with: abuse, trust and betrayal, communication breakdowns, complicated
family
dynamics, grief, shame, anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
